On December 10, the East Baghdad Oilfield Project held a grand ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the commissioning of the first series at the Central Processing Facility (CPF) and the completion of Iraq's longest horizontal well EBST-26-2H (2,826-meter in the horizontal section). Attendees included Wang Yuetao, Chairman of the company, Mohammed Yassin, Director General of Midland Oil Company, Ferras Nazim, Chairman of the Joint Management Committee (JMC), Jiang Ming, Vice General Manager of the company and General Manager of Oasis Oil Company, and Ma Cheng, General Manager of East Baghdad Oil Company.
Wang Yuetao stated in his speech that the commissioning of the CPF's first oil series exemplifies the resource sharing and joint construction efforts of the Oasis Oil Company and East Baghdad Oil Company teams, as well as an effective management innovation practice. The successful completion of well EBST-26-2H is of great significance to the East Baghdad Oilfield Project and another achievement showcasing ZhenHua Oil's dedication to technological innovation for efficient oilfield development. He expressed gratitude for the long-standing support from the Iraqi Ministry of Oil and Midland Oil Company, and hoped the two sides will continue joining hands and supporting each other to deepen and solidify Sino-Iraqi energy cooperation.
Mohammed Yassin highly praised the pioneering nature of relocating and commissioning the CPF's first oil series and the innovation of the ultra-long horizontal well EBST-26-2H. He stated that the processing facilities from the Ahdeb Oilfield enabled the fastest ramp-up of production at East Baghdad Oilfield and filled the fuel supply gap for the Kirkuk and Zubair power plants. The successful completion of EBST-26-2H significantly enhanced Iraq's long horizontal well capabilities, marking a new height in horizontal well development in Iraqi oilfields.
To increase crude oil processing capacity, East Baghdad Oilfield creatively proposed relocating the crude processing facilities from Ahdeb Oilfield and swiftly pushed for the implementation plan to construct and commission the CPF, achieving start-up 47 days ahead of schedule.
Well EBST-26-2H is the first ultra-long horizontal appraisal well deployed at East Baghdad Oilfield. Spudded on October 15, the well took 55 days to drill to a depth of 5,449 meters with a 2,826-meter horizontal section, setting a new record for the longest horizontal section in Iraq. Its successful implementation provides technical support and assurance for efficiently leveraging ultra-long horizontal wells to boost production capacity and high-quality progress of the oilfield's Phase II project.
